A docent is a volunteer teacher (age minimum is 16 years old). An Emporia Zoo Docent is a member of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, trained for and dedicated to teaching about animals, promoting ecological awareness, and supporting the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia.

The Emporia Zoo Docents offer a variety of education outreach:

• They can bring programs to your school, organization meeting or care facility.
• Docents help with many activities you can participate in while visiting the Zoo, such as Docent in the Zoo, Boo in the Zoo, Spring Forward, Party for the Planet, and many more.
• Graphics you can see when touring the Zoo.
